Press Release October 17, 2000 Frank Craine Contracts with Jim Quinn & Associates to Build High Tech Arts & Crafts Furniture
Frank Craine, a partner with Peter Gisolfi Associates Architects in Hastings on Hudson, has just signed a contract with Jim Quinn & Associates to manufacture furniture he designs. The Craine Collection will be available both nationally and internationally to architects, interior designers and institutions. Frank Craine is nationally known for his creative school and library design. Together Craine and Quinn have 40 years of experience designing and equipping public and private libraries.
Craine's design combines traditional detailing and elegance with the technological demands of today's computer-oriented world. The result is a full line of furniture that meets the highest aesthetic standards for traditional furniture today and tomorrow's technological demands.
Frank notes, "Designing furniture is like building a building within a building. We look at the functions that students will need now and over the course of the next decade, and design furniture to meet those needs. Electronics are accessible so that as technology and students change, the furniture can easily be adapted to meet new needs. When choosing a company to sell and manufacture for me, I was extremely concerned about consistently highly quality workmanship and attention to detail, and a partner that understands library needs from a number of perspectives. I know that Jim Quinn is as demanding as me, and that nothing will be compromised. "
Frank Craine was born in Brooklyn, New York. He studied architecture at City University of New York, where he developed his love of design and detailing. At City College he began admiring the styling and fine woodworking found in the Arts and Crafts Movement.
Frank's collaborator, interior architect Diane Collins, notes, "Arts and Crafts is very adaptable. With its clean lines it can go into a modern building, adding a sense of durability and history to a new space, or it can easily be integrated into an older building and seem right at home. What we admire about furniture with the styling of Stickley or William Morris is that it can go anywhere." Frank adds, "I design my furniture to have the same timelessness while gracefully integrating technology."
Jim Quinn was born in Jamaica, Queens; he moved to Guilderland when he was eight. After he graduated from Bishop Gibbons high school he gravitated back to New York City where he went to work, earning a BA in Industrial Marketing from Baruch at night.
